Main Characteristics:

  • Active Document Support: The feature automatically detects whether a SolidWorks document is open and active, providing the ability to copy its full path to the clipboard.

  • Intelligent Component Selection: When working within an assembly, the tool allows you to specifically select a component. If the selected component is a part, it directly copies the path to that component. If it is an assembly, it provides additional options.

  • Advanced Options for Assemblies: In the case of selecting an assembly, the function asks if you want to copy the paths of all components included in the assembly. In addition, it allows you to specify whether you want to include all component levels or only the first level, providing flexibility according to user needs.

  • Suppressed Component Exclusion: The tool intelligently excludes components that are suppressed within the assembly, ensuring that only the paths of active and relevant components are copied.

  • Friendly User Interface: With clear dialogs and simple options, the function is accessible to users of all levels, simplifying the task of file path management.

How to Use:

  1. Make sure that the SolidWorks document is open and active.
  2. If you want to copy the path of a specific component, select it in the graphic area.
  3. Execute the “Copy Paths” function from the Cimtools side panel within SolidWorks.
  4. Respond to pop-up dialogs according to your specific needs (e.g. copy all component levels in an assembly).
  5. Once the action is completed, the path(s) will be copied to the clipboard, ready to be pasted where needed.

Notes:

  • The function requires that you have a SolidWorks document open to operate correctly.
  • Paths are copied in plain text format, compatible with any application that supports the paste function.

This feature is an essential SolidWorks macro for the efficient management of documents and components within SolidWorks, facilitating the organization, sharing and quick access to crucial archival information.
